coolant explosion

okay so i just changed the water pump and i was trying to bleed the cooling system. I had the radiator cap off and the wife started the car. The car started. Next thing i know coolant is exploding out of the radiator onto the coils and battery. When it hit the manifold a huge white cloud erupted. I immediately told her to turn it off. I cleaned up the battery and tried my best to dry off the coils. I told her to start the car and it just cranks. The abs, traction control, traction control off, service braking system, and charging system failure battery saver active all came on. I disconnected the battery and tried again. This time the battery is dead.

Could the coolant have fried the icm?
Should i get a new battery?

The icm has a weatherproof seal on the connector, as do all other connections under the hood. Pull your battery cable again and look for corrosion on the cable at the battery.

The cables have no corrosion on them and the battey is clean too. However the battery did die in the process. I had her turn the lights on and they were very dim

That's odd... some coolant all over that stuff is quite normal to happen in your type of situation. I've drenched quite a few belts/coils etc and never had a battery go dead like that. Maybe take it in for testing.

should i try to jumpstart the car?

I don't know. I think it would be a much better check to test the battery and take a third look at the cables. Most guys don't see the corrosion, but then I'm unsure what year you have. If you have 04+ then it's easy to see it.

so got a new battery just now and it cranks just fine. It will not start its giving p0030 HO2S heater control circuit, bank one, sensor one.

This is an oxygen sensor right? why would this prevent the car from starting?

Nope. The 02's shouldn't prevent a startup. When you turn the key on but not try to crank it, do you hear the fuel pump hum for a few seconds?

yeah it does. I went out and got it to start after work. I think there was just moisture on the coils preventing spark. also i cleared the code for the 02 sensor and it didnt come back

Search on the code so you understand what is going on with it. Usually it takes one or two drive cycles for a code to pop the light on.
