Dexcool (orange) does not eat gaskets. It is not a corrosive.
Green, however, doesn't like aluminum parts which is why you see less and less of it.
Put Dexcool back in.
sounds good to me thanks guys !
I've changed my coolant to the Green. Take a look at this link and see what issues there are about Dexcool. This has been debated probably since GM started using Dexcool.
GM Owners Still Steaming Over Dex-Cool
And that link makes a good point:
Dexcool does not have problems in a well maintained system. If you have air in your system, it can turn to sludge. Here's a hint... don't let air in! Fix it and don't let it go. Also, it does not erode gaskets. The gaskets were already faulty from the factory. The engines it 'causes' gasket failures on just have crappy gaskets. Why don't you see the Corvette with Dexcool issues? Because it has quality gaskets that aren't going to leak.If your car or truck came from the factory with Dex-Cool, you should continue to use that coolant both as replacement and to top off the radiator, the mechanics say.
Even more so, other car manufacturers have started using Dexcool. It really is better. And that article is old. Between then and now most of those 'problems' have been explained by other factors, and it was found Dexcool was only the escape goat.
The only thing that could be changed is the service interval. No one should expect it to last that long. If you flush it at a more sane interval, you won't ever have a problem. Of course, our engines have gasket issues no matter what is in there, so that is beside the point.![]()
