I've been powder coating at home for a couple years and have had great results.
Buy quality powders and prep work is essential to a nice finish.
If you use your home oven I was told you can not use it to cook in ever again you need to buy a new oven don't know if its true
Was just looking at Eastwood and they have a nice kit for garage use, I guess the price of the equipment is a lot more reasonable than it used to be, although not cheap when you factor in the oven.
My point was that "real" powdercoating a/k/a electrostatic painting, requires special equipment and without it it's not real powdercoating. Just as an FYI for anybody reading this who may not be familiar with the details, maybe help the next guy not get ripped off when buying "powdercoated" parts.
If I had seen them in person I would have known not to buy them but as you can see from the thread the guy was just a crook
I get that and not suggesting that you don't know what powdercoating looks like, was just posting info for anyone reading who may not know, that's all.
One of my friends starting powdercoating using an old kitchen oven. Every loved his results and he started picking up more business for it. He eventually upgraded to a better oven and went on from there. The point is you do NOT need a special oven to powder coat parts.Quote:

I replied to burbman. He is making it seem like you can only powder coat in a special oven. That is not the case.
No....but you need an oven. When we remodeled the kitchen in our last house I put the appliances on CL and a guy actually bought the stove so he could use the oven for baking parts. How many guys do you know with a parts oven in their garage? I'm sure there are a few, but again, point was that you're not driving to WalMart for a can of powdercoat spray.
You are jumping all over the place. First you said, well it takes expensive equipment and you still have to have an oven.
Then you said, well I looked it up and the stuff isn't expensive, but you still need an oven.
Now you are saying, well, sure you can use a kitchen oven, but you can't buy the powder at Wal Mart.
Not one of those points are valid. The FACT is, you can do powder coating at home, in your garage, and get quality work if you do good prep work, and you do it right.
OK you win, wasn't looking for an argument. Was only trying to help, obviously you know more about this than I do. Maybe post up some quick tips on how to tell if a part has been really powdercoated so folks don't get ripped off like what happened here. That's all I was trying to do.
YES you can get quality powdercoating results in your garage IF you have the right equipment, and NO, you can't buy the powder at Wal Mart.
yea DO NOT use an oven for food after you use it for powdercoating,
