ok i know this isnt normal but i want to increase my GP towing capacity. i know that i would have to get a better trans cooler and possibly upgrade suspension to something like air ride but does any one else know the major weak points in these cars to increase to towing capacity on my 2003 GP. please no criticizers. trying to only own my grand prix and not have to get another truck for a small camper orvtrailer. jusdt curious on what others have found out. thanks in advance guys and gals for input.

These trannys are a very weak point in the gp's . 4 th clutch hub would probably be the first to go

How big a camper? Like one of those pop out jobs?
And iirc the 03s had the hardened 4th in them.
If its a GTP remove the supercharger belt when towing.

Why would you remove the supercharger belt?

What if he had to get up to speed quicker than normal and hit PE, would dump fuel and have no air there, that would hurt the motor.

I believe the manaul says the towing capacity and I wouldnt go above that, unless the trans was built up more.

The 03+ does have the hardend 4th gear shaft so that helps alot.

I have been told that you should not pull anything with a GTP because it will mess up the supercharger and if you do need to tow something to remove the supercharger belt.

Gibberish. It won't hurt the supercharger in the slightest

It was one of the mods on here that said that. Someone had asked about pulling a small trailer with their gtp.

thanks guys. i was planning on doing air ride at least in the back and upgrading trans cooler to start and thanks for the 4th gear upgrade advice and im not removing the belt on the supercharger. doing that would cause a daming effect and allow less air to get into the engine then a NA 3800. i believe the main reason that towning isnt allowed on the GTP is because of the gear ratio difference between the se GT and the GTP

rv show, hell get a tow dolly for the gp and use it as a tow car. problem solved lol

if you do get a trailer to tow. make sure it had trailer brakes, and hook them up, makes a huge difference when stopping. you can feel the trailer slowing you down.
