Thread: overheating, some other issues

guys and gals,

I have been having issues with my cooling system. Previously, it would intermittently run the cooling fans on high speed only, no low speed on. It now will not turn any on, the gauge pegged at 235 (with new temp sensor installed and fans working previously, high speed worked). The fans wont come on when a/c is turned on either. The other thing, is the a/c clutch wont engage when powered on. I have checked all the relays with running power through them and an alternative circuit with a light, so it pulled current through switch, all worked (a/c relay, main cooling fan relay, fan 1 and fan 2 all checked out fine). the fuses are all good as well. the question is, has anyone had this problem, and how did they fix it? also, powered straight off the batt, the fans work as well. i NEED to get one of those electrical testers with the command on it, just need to find a shop local that has one. anywho, thanks in advance! running out of time here, and at wit's end!

what year i will look up the wiring on it ?

im tempted to go jump 30 and 87 to see if it engages fans through relay. if that works, i know its something with relay even though they tested good. so did fuses...could be pcm...i dont want it to be, its my DD, and cant afford down time.

99. i have a POS haynes that covers from 89-99...but it has one schematic, and it blows...so at least the fans come on when i pull the coolant temp sensor. speaking of that, i get resistance off the yellow line (signal to pcm) but nothing from the green, constant open (which i believes go to dash panel) both should have same reading, and either increase or decrease as intended with temperature. so, probably bad sensor?

ok, fuses, relays, etc are good. the ambient temp sensor seems fine, it had around 11.4k resistance sitting in open air in house, about 68 F. in hand closed it shower about 9.8 k resistance, in freezer it rolled about 15-16k. so it seems that this is good. i ordered a new digital climate controller. what else can i check to see why the hell my a/c doesnt work and cooling fans stay off? i need to buy r134, im sure its low, and could be the root cause for all this...tomorrow we go shopping! any other ideas are greatly appreciated! thanks 00grandprix. assuming your location is the only one i know, you are a fellow hoosier, im on duty in SoCal for the time being.

still awaiting climate controller arrival. any other ideas anyone can think of? maybe the input to the ecm from temp sensor is faulty? that or the sensor itself. like i said earlier, i get a resistance reading when going across ground and yellow wire, but not on the dark green wire on the CTS...yellow feeds gauge? or does yellow feed ECM? im really tired of car overheating all the time, and dont want to warp heads...i dont have money to rebuild my engine :-/

refilled my ac and all problems went away. i guess that piece was TOO LOW! it swallowed a whole 18oz can, and probably could use more, but the a/c clutch engaged, the fans work fully, etc. i just hope it stays this way...i hate electrical problems, so many other little things may be the problem lol. thanks for the info/help guys!
