the amount of miles remaining on my dic and the gasoline gauge on mine and my dad's pontiac isn't acurate. it goes up and down a lot. especially when I'm below the half way mark on gas. anyone else have this problem? and if so, any solutions?

Probably need a new fuel sender. It's in the tank.
if its original then you might need a new sending unit they go bad in these cars but you cant expect the DIC or gas gauge to be spot on its just a general guide line
I'm not positive but don't almost all gm cars have (what I'm going to call a floating needle)? Both of my gp's and my moms ga gas gauge move a lot. Especially under half tank.

yes they do (at least w bodies do) and the sensors on the floating part of it wear out which can cause more extream changes in the needle on his gas gauge
thanks
and i will look online about installing the fuel sensor. idk anything about that. about how much do they cost and is it better to get it from o'reilly/another auto store or online?
You can get one from ebay for like $20
