i drove like that for 2 days when i was changing my muffler, "no" muffler sounds better then one thats blown out, but a nice quite stock muffler wins all day for these cars. at least for me.

of course after i put the new muffler on i could hear the res was rotted, then changed that out.

then again the fact that my whole cat back was all after market helps a lot not being welded together.

yup no u-bend in 04+ dude. we can all tell you're new to this stuff and like all the rest of the guys said you need to do your reading. honestly your best bet on the exhaust is finding someone, maybe even on here, that is selling a used catback exhaust for real cheap. that way you can always put your stock one back on if you need to without cutting it up lol. thats the best advice i can give you, especially since thats exactly what it did haha.

Since headers are out of the question...

Honestly, just hang on to that money. Or if you just have to do something, take it to a muffler shop, have them chop the muffers off, remove the tips, then weld in a piece of pipe with the tips welded to that. Shouldn't even be $50.

You'll have a really loud car that will set off car alarms in parking garages (I know this, cause I used to be Racekar driver)

The only 2 downsides are for when you're trying to sneak your GF back home after hours and they can hear you 3 states away. And you will eventually want to kill yourself on long trips from the constant loud exhaust.

My 2 cents. Save the money, and hang onto it. No need to modify a vehicle if you can't even afford to repair the vehicle...which I guarantee with 100% accuracy, that someone will eventually need to be fixed or replaced.

Mbyrne159, This is what its gonna sound like if you chop your mufflers off like Machinegun said : 2004 Impala SS exhaust - YouTube. This would be my SS when I had my mufflers cut off. Once i tried making a call on my cell and could hear sh*t, then I put new new mufflers on the next day. It gets old esp. on trips over 30 mins or so, plus I couldnt even hear my blower it was so loud! If you have a saw, at least its a "free mod" lol.
