I am making my own air intake for my gxp. When ur making one does the MAF still need to be apart of the intake system? Or can it be just taken out with out it throwing off the service engine light on the dashboard of the car?

Maf is vital unless you tune around it.
thats kinda what i thought but all the kits i found for my car and all the how to make your own dont include the maf in the making of them.
Some Crude examples here, but you get the picture. It doesnt need to be a true cold air intake, but close to behind the headlight and near the fender section can allow for some cooler air and possibly keep your IAT's down, but the PCM can factor/function around those high temps like it always does.
that makes sense and answers my questions. i should be able to do it now. I'll post pictures after i finish it. ive got a few parts from a k&n 63-3059 that i picked up at a junk yard like a heat shield and a couple other pieces that i can reuse. the rest i purchased parts from my local auto parts store
