I was test driving a beaten up GTO yesterday (just for fun) and the car was really loud. As son as I started it up I heard the lovley LS1 music.

So I pop the hood to check what the guy has done. Im thinkin maby headers? No! The guy simply remove all piping the is behind that cats. So he kept the cats a deleted all other piping.

Now obviusly this isn't the greatest idea, but I kinda liked it. Also the 3800 will not come close to putting out the same sound, but I was thinkin how would it sound with the same setup on a gtp?

I was thinking simply delete the mufflers and install a pipe the goes where the mufflers would go.

How would it sound? Like poop? A rattle?

I have a very good feeling that my power wil decrease though.

What do u guys think? I have a shop down the street that does these odd end exhaust work for pretty cheap and fast.

It'll sound good at idle, but other than that it'll sounds like crap.

Not to mention it'll be ridiculously loud.

I kinda like it.... Think I should go for it? Ill keep the resonator and cats.

Its should be loud, but not terribly loud right?

The whole job should be fairly cheap. Around $100

I did a ressy and muffler delete on mine some time ago. To me it sounds good and it's quite inside the car at highway speeds, but you'll get tired of it after a while. Some times loud isn't always good. I'd go DP with high flow cat, maybe a high flow ressy and a nice set of borla mufflers. If your going to drop money into it, go ahead and do it right the first time. Wish I would have. The best thing is waking your annoying neighbors up at 5:00 in the morning when you fire it up.lol!!!!

i had my mufflers removed and replaced with simple piping... its no V8 or complete exhaust set up but i was happy with it only paying 150.00 thats with tips that were i think 60.00

so i think it sounds nice going down the roadbut once i get a little more money im going to replace the resignator with pipe for a little more noise.

Go for it! You won't know if you like it or not unless you hear it in person. The videos give you an idea, but there's no replacement for live audio. Take a hacksaw to the stockers and drive around like that for a little bit. If you don't like it, take the mufflers to an exhaust shop and have them re-weld them back in place. If you do like it, go ahead and have the straight pipes and tips welded in.
I personally am considering going with a pair of 2.5" glasspacks for mufflers.

I agree with this. I did this on my first GTP, and sounded much better than half the other GTPs I have heard.

If your stock mufflers are in good shape, keep them. Just remove the cat, u-bend, and resonator.

I have heard a lot of gps sound awesome at idle but get really ricey sounding as soon at the rpms go up. If its cheap and you don't mind spending a few bucks go for it but before spending any money on expensive exaust setups I would definitly research.

Also if you just hack the mufflers off and run around without it exiting from under the car, it is going to have a totally different sound than getting pipe and tips put on. Just remember that a tip too small will give it more of a raspy sound than a bigger diameter. i ran 4" on mine and it loog and sounded good. Filled the exhaust hole pretty good and wasn't too big for the car.
