Thanks for the help everyone. I got everything back together, and aside from some cooling issues due to what seems to be a non-opening thermostat, everything is looking good.

You might have an air bubble. Once in a while you get a car taht doesn't want to burp out the air. Pull the t stat and fill the LIM through the stat hole..put it back together and likely you'll be all set.

yeah, I took the tstat out last night, and found that the lim coolant was about an 1-1.5" below the top of the coolant opening. I left the tstat out, filled it up, started the car, bled it and temp never got much above 185*. I filled the lim before I put everything back together the first time to help with getting the air out as well.

I'm going to throw the tstat in a pot of water and see if it opens.

    Yeah, this guy.

Hence looking into coolant and finding no answers.

Dex doesn't provide any anti corrosion protection for the first 5-10 000 miles from what I've gathered.

Try G-05 that can be found at Napa, less expensive than Dex around here yet instant protection.

I got the tstat in a pot and it turns out that it doesn't open until 210. Stock should open around 190, correct? Given how hot it is here I'm thinking of getting a 180. There shouldn't be any problem with that should there?
