I have a 2004 GTP Comp G. I'm wanting to run a 3.4" pulley. My mods are a K&N CAI, downpipe, straight pipes (no res. no mufflers) 180* t-stat, high ratio rockers, colder plugs, and have always used premium gas. Am I safe to run a 3.4" or do I need a 3.5"?

i would definitely not say you are "safe" to run any pulley size for any given mods.
however the best chance of you not seeing kr and having a good tune is for you to run a 3.6
my personal opinion is to leave it as is, get headers and THEN drop to a 3.5 pulley with a way to scan for knock retard (KR) and make sure you have somebody who can tune.

Headers for sure would be a plus.. BUT with rockers you can prolly run the 3.5. I would scan though for sure.

As of now I do not have a scan tool in a couple of weeks I for sure will. How much does a tune generally run I'm cutting my budget razor thin..

a few mods for protection are always better than grenading your engine by mistake.
i dont wanna offer you advice as i barely have any, but maybe you shouldnt mod if you have a really tight budget? i only say that because when you mod the chance of **** going wrong just goes higher...maybe save a few more bucks till you get some wiggle room? just my .02 cents on that topic.

topic at hand. tunes costs are different for areas and tuners. my suggestion is to get somebody who knows how to tune do an in car tune.
a second option would be to get an aftermarket PCM tuned by overkill, reptile or zzp. be warned though, those are not the best tunes for your car because they need to do a kind of general tune. a custom tune is always best, but if you dont have the option go with an aftermarket PCM.

I would say with headers, tune, scan tool, and your rockers you should be able to run the 3.4 safely

im still doubtful lol but that depends on what your tune says...a great tune with a 3.5 will beat a poorly tuned car with a 3.4.

Leave the 3.8 on it unless you get headers...getting a tune will help greatly even with the stock 3.8 pulley...at least get a PLOG to help move the air out your rockers are putting in

If he gets headers the 3.4 should be within reach or at least real close

    3.4 on gen V is like a 3.3 on a gen III.
again, we are only speculating. you wont know for sure unless you have a way to scan.

Actually 3.4 on a GenV is like a 3.2 on a GenIII... BUT he should still be ok... It is not on an L67. But just get a scan tool. That would be the best way to tell...

Thanks everyone for all the insight ya'll were real helpful I just got done spending like close to 3 grand on mods to get the 3.4 (a big chunk of that was from buying an inferno hood and getting it painted, and spyder halos) I'm about to sell my junker 80's camaro for maybe a grand maybe then I can run a 3.4 or if not maybe a 3.5
