So i have read so many posts on people saying things about there setups and saying its better than the next. Well i want a definite tech answer. From my understanding hai is supposed to be better cus its better airflow=more power right? Well what about kr we go colder plugs and colder tstat, headers/plog/downpipe/wrap all to drop the temp of the engine to lower kr because kr results in loss of power. So wouldnt a cai out the fender be the best option or are there certain guidelines/restrictions for when one is better then the other.

yeah it probably would be the best option. the wheel well protects it from debris from the road, it doesnt really have any direct exposure to the road. you will just have to be sure to clean the filter more often because it will collect more crap on it being down there. and dont try to close it off in a box, leave it as an open cone. you will get more airflow that way.

    well...colder air=more power.
the question is, does the fenderwell intake flow good enough to justify bringing in the cold air?
the more bends, the more restriction. and by the time the air gets to the engine bay, will it be just as warm as a hai?
either way itll only be like 1whp difference between the two, unless you get down to a 2.8 pulley on a gen V, it wont matter that much.

hes right. the difference is so slight it probly wont even matter. i have a short ram air open cone intake that goes partially into the fenderwell and it gets a lot of airflow from it so whatever you do i would direct it towards the fenderwell

It's gonna get super hot once it hits the tb anyway. So the only thing people should worry about with these cars is to have the most flow=less bends and big piping.

Pvc is your best bet. It stands up to the heat and is very smooth for good flow.

There's such a minimal difference theres no point in arguing about this topic. Just go with the one you think looks better.

If you can get colder air into the cylinder, then yes, go for it. Put a filter anywhere that it will do that... But there's this goofy looking spinny thingy that does nothing but heat air up in the way.

Basically, your intake temps might be lower, but your air entering the cylinders is going to be the same, which is what matters. IMO (granted this isn't a definite tech answer) just do what you want. I don't like putting a cone filter right on the TB, looks crappy to me. At least put in an adapter, or something of the like.

yup just do what machinegunsquid said. thats what i did. i just added some bigger pipe after the maf sensor and then put the cone filter on. do that if you have 04+. 97-03 just pvc the entire thing since the maf is on the TB.

Then you'll have to do your own testing. None of us care enough to bother because the difference between the three intake types is too minimal to notice in the seat. What is more important is that your tune is adjusted for your intake, as the afr can be altered by intake swaps. Since performance is a non-issue (especially without a high level of modification), your deciding factors are as follows:

    1. Price
    2. Sound
    3. Appearance

Pick what makes you happy, because your car does not care.
Irridium spark plugs last 100k mi and work just as well as copper. Copper is a waste on N/A and only lasts 15k mi. Don't use Platinum.
Use 195* tstat unless you can thoroughly explain why not; 99.9% don't need a lower temp.
Almost any oil filter, ever, is of higher quality than ACDelco. Spend $6+.

I dunno, when I had mine setup as a fenderwell intake, I went through a big ass puddle, and the car definitely cared.

Also, one more good point...Why do people swap out the Gen III for the Gen V or other superchargers?? They are more efficient in not heating the air as much as the Gen III

Your car has a drinking problem.

I'm sticking with CAI. I never saw any KR with it CAI. As soon as I switched to HAI, I started noticing KR. Not to mention ridiculous AIT's. Even when cruising down the highway, the AIT's were 20-30* above ambient. Switched back, KR gone. I did like being able to hear the S/C at idle though.

03 GTP...Its got pulleys and stuff.

    IATs?? Intake air temp?

Though I guess Ambient Intake temp applies though.

With my HAI, I would see a max of 15* above ambient while driving. Though sitting still, they would shoot up, whereas my fenderwell would remain much lower.. Especially if it decided to vacuum in a few gallons of water.

Oops..yeah that, lol. I didn't go fenderwall just for that reason. When it rains here, it floods.

When there's a will, theres a way. You could cut a hole in the hood, stick a cone filter out of it, and put a big ass scoop over it. It'd look like ass though.

Think of it this way. W-body's putting down 400+ HP dont have crazy, intricate intake setups. They just have what's simple, and works well.
