go get 2 cans of engine de greaser from the parts store, and then go to the car wash, spray down the whole engine, top and bottom as much as you can, follow the wait time and then spray it down.

if your all stock you CAN HOSE the whole engine down. just dont blast the alternator.

if you have a open cone, take it off and tape a bag over the TB.
