and maybe you can help me figure out what else is wrong with it, drives weird. but im thinking tie rods.
ill just wait till next weekend though. not to far away.

Just a heads up I do not know if your car is under a recall but my 99 3800 is under a recall for oil dripping on the exhaust manifold and causing a fire. I just found out about the recall and my car did catch on fire and I got the vehicle fixed to the point I can drive it for now. I called gm about it and they told me that since I lived in Kansas any claims past 10 years of manufacture they will not cover since the recall came out just recently. So I would say check with your dealer about the recall and see if yours is under any, because if anything happens gm will not cover anything for u

pretty sure the recall is only for the s/c engines. and your fire probably started due to a fuel rail leak.

if it caught fire due to a oil leak, that means you ignored it way to long. if you had no oil leaks, then it was the leaky fuel rail.

haha, didnt buy from a dealer. and if anything im just going to end rebuilding the motor.
new gaskets, clean the heads, maybe new pistons if they arnt bad, fuel injectors,
and maybe a couple more things. but thats later on in the year or 2.
so far no problem with it catching fire, neither with my old 97 se i had.
only got rid of that because my rear strut towers blew out.
if anything GM should fix that issue with all the wbody cars.
thats all imo. the 97 GT i got now is having the same problem
but im taking it to a shop to get fixed in a cpl weeks or so hopefully.

Rebuilding a 3800 is a waste of money when perfectly good used engines are plentiful and relatively inexpensive.

Call dealer with your VIN and ask.

And GM should kill the W body once and for all.

Its from the mid 80's, it needs to die.

The recall is from a oil leak I have already checked with the dealer. Give your vin number. The recall was not for the super charged but the non supercharged motor

For SC they replace spark wire retainers and front valve cover gasket.

For NA they replace spark plug retainers.

Solution is new fuel disconnects as well as valve cover gaskets and grommets.

Might as well do the LIM, coolant elbows, and UIM (if L36) while you're in there.

    Mikey Bonefas,

If you would like, PM me the last 8-digits of your VIN and I can look up recall information for you.

I look forward to your reply.
