Your headlights are coming on because our cars have daytime running lights (DRLs). They come on at reduced voltage anytime the engine is running. If you don't want them on while the car warms up, you can set the parking brake before starting the car and they won't come on until the parking brake is released.
If you want to disable them completely, there's a plug you have to pull in the dash. Open up the panel on the side of the driver's side of the dash, and you'll see a module with a huge heat sink (lots of metal fins). Pull the plug from this module, and the DRLs will be disabled.
Sorry, but I can't help you with the speedometer. I'm sure someone who can will post soon.
The only thing that comes to mind with regards to the speedometer would be the vehicle speed sensor that is located on the differential of the transmission on the passenger side. If you look at your axle shaft that goes into the transmission on the passenger side, you'll see the sensor on the housing the axle goes into.
It's probably just a bad gauge cluster. I have one for sale in the for sale section if you do end up needing a new one.
it works fine now.... dont know what made it do that. but i went to advanced auto today to get a new air filter and i had them check to see why the check engine light was on and it said the knock sensors are bad. i gotta figure out why my fog lights arent working either.
ooohhh Gremlins are fun to chase down and work out... Sorry to hear of your troubles. GL with the repairs, though. Is the light in the switch coming on when you try to turn on the fogs?
That's my guess - for a starting point, at least.
