2004 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP Spark Plugs

Okay, I am no where near a mechanic nor do i claim to be but im trying to be cheap and do some work myself and get things done. I have a spark plug wire that was actually sparking. Took the car to my mechanic and he said it was something easy that i could do myself. I pulled the plug off and it looks as if its bad.. Dont know for sure if it is or not but figured i would get it changed anyways. now when i looked at it after getting the wire off it was going into the bottom of the engine in the middle and i could not get it out, but the wire came right off, is that supposed to happen or is this something that i should just take to a mechanic to have done the right way so i dont mess my car up even more?

What part of the wire came off?

Did the boot separate from the wire?

I guess I am a little lost as to the problem.

So you took the wire off the spark plug itself but part of it is still stuck on it?

Can you try and explain more and even get pictures?

@ Matt sorry i just found the website and figured i would ask for assistance didnt mean to put it in the wrong one.

@ fivefingerdeathpunch basiclly the question is, is this something i can do myself? Im guessing its the actual spark plug going into the engine?(not sure like i said not a mechanic) but it will not come out for me. dont know if it was the angle or if it is actually stuck in there?

are you saying you ripped the spark plug wire out of the boot part that goes over the spark plug?

when taking off the wires, twist and then pull by the boot, the thick part, not the thin wire part.

when you put the new wires on, you want to push it on till you feel a small click.

and are you also changing the spark plugs?

Grab the spark plug boot and twist and pull outwards.

The boot goes over the spark plug itself with is threaded into the cylinder head, spark plugs are removed with a spark plug socket and wrench.

the boots over time get stuck the plug and thats why a twisting motion can help get them free.

@ scotty yes when trying to change it i pulled the boot off because at first i just thought it was the wire.

heres your wire and plug order, so you dont mess that up, match the plug wires number to number.

the spark plugs are a 5/8 th plug socket, a 3 inch extension with a 3/8 ratchet.

the two brackets, that mount to the front of the engine to the radiator support, take the bolts out of them both, get a ratchet strap and hook the engine to the rad support, and pull the engine forward, now you can see the back of the engine, and have better access to remove them.

get iridium plugs, not platinum. and stock replacement wires.
