but what if you have an issue in the rear bank? Your WB would read fine but the reading would be wrong right?

You still wouldn't know.
If the rear was running lean then you'd only see the average and enrich until back on target but then front is rich, rear is lean.
Issue still present, but should be clear from spark plugs when you pull them.
Our PCM's only see one "bank" so it shouldnt matter.
