is your pump whining? if so maybe the pump is bad.

i also lost steering like you changed the pump and still had no power, (mine never whined) so i had to do the rack as well, then it worked like new.

Generally if you have assist in one direction and not the other, the rack is going out.

Time for a rack. Take a look on the drivers side where the large rubber boot is on the rack and see if you have a small wire harness coming from it. That will tell you if you need a Magnesteer rack or not. Eventually your rack will fail completely and it may not give any warning. Mine didn't and failed in the middle of trying to make a left turn, in the middle of a busy intersection. I've never had to pull on a wheel that hard in my life, lol... Thought I was gonna get t-boned.

Don't do a pump or the bad rack is just going to take it out again.

Do pump , lines and rack. When this happened to me, the filter for the p/s was FULL of tiny metal fragments. This was after a new pump. So I did the rack pump etc. Went away and hasn't been an issue. Luckily a rack is easy as is the pump if you have jackstands (rack) and ramps (for pump)

you cant do the pump on ramps you need the tire off to un hook th the lines from the pump and then take it out the wheel well.

i changed my pump first, drove it with a bad rack for a few weeks then changed the rack. pump still lives.

and why would you change the lines????? and where would this filter be, never saw or heard of one.

You can do the pump from the top, but it's a PITA, you have to roll the engine forward, but it's doable. You can get to the line from underneath the car with the tire on. I can see the point of not changing the pump until you have the new rack, if something is throwing metal shavings around, you don't want to contaminate a new pump. Changing the lines seems a bit excessive though, I'd just flush them .
