Wheel Bearings/Hubs

Is there any kind of write up on this for a DIY replacement. I need to change all my bearings out. Is it a hard project? Any special tools needed? I have impact wrenches, jack stands, sockets, wrenches. Any things else I will need?

Nope, you got it all. Its a fairly simple deal. The hardest part would be getting the axle nut off but with your impact wrench that shouldnt be an issue, I believe the axle nut is a 36mm one. Remove the tire, remove the axle nut, then remove the three bolts the hold the bearing to the spindle I believe it is called and then reverse. Be careful of the wiring that is on the bearing and dont get it smashed with the axle shaft.

Axle nut wasn't too bad for me, 2ft breaker bar + my mass beats every bolt I've met to date.......

But yeah, just watch for the wiring, and you may need a press/slight tap with a hammer to get the axle to let go of the bearing, just don't hit too hard

Everyone kept telling me how hard the axle nut is to come off. I was all ready. Had the socket and a three foot breaker bar for insurance. I got a good stance ready... set myself... and started to push. It came loose with the slightest pressure. Man did I feel like a dweeb.

i used a breaker bar and a 2 foot cheater pipe to get mine loose, lol. extensions for the sockets are lifesavers if you keep the kuckel bolted on and change out just the hub itself.

there was a write up somewhere on the web but i cant find it. you need red threadlocker on the hub bolts and use Timken. Autozone sells Timken.

I dont believe that you want to use red thread locker on those hub bolts. Ive replaced a few of those things and have never used thread locker of any kind and never had an issue. But if you use red it would be dang near impossible to get them back out give the location of them and the cramped quarters. As for Timken, if you can afford to get those, I too would recommend them.

What is Timken? Also, are the rear bearings/hubs just as easy to do? I have to do the back drivers side along with replacing the ABS wire harness.

Oh, I went used OEM from Morad.....I got all four strut/springs assemblys, 3 wheel bearings and the abs harnes for $370 shipped to my door. Can't beat that deal.
