Well got my car all back together yesterday and so far so good, so today I decided to replace the blower motor in my car because it was squeeling etc..I had ordered a replacement a while back and yes my car has the auto climate dual controls. Anyways after being upside down in my car for an hour or so I finally got the damn motor replaced. Got in the drivers seat, turned on the car and started to play with the controls. I had it full blast then all of a sudden got this loud POP sound from the dash, fan was still blowing, and some dust or smoke blew out of the vents, I think it was smoke but like I've said this car has been sitting for 3 years so it could have been a bunch of dust on a blend door too I guess.. But now I'm afraid to run the blower for very long because I'm afriad it might cause a fire! I've played with the controls some more keeping the speed of the motor on the slow end and it blows fine, got down and felt of the motor housing and it's cool to the touch, not hot etc. So has anyone else experienced that? Know what it could have been???

If the blower resistors melted the fan may only work on high and there may be an electrical burning smell associated with this.

If some dust came out of the vents when you first turned it then a critter may have taken up residence in your plumbing. The pop you heard may have just been some debris going through the fan.

OK tried it on ALL settings DUAL, AUTO, MODE, REC, at low and high speeds, something that I just noticed tho, it seems like when you control the fan speed vs. using the auto function and setting it on 60, it seems like the auto function is a little bit faster....Also I was trying to remember what all I was hitting when I got the loud pop sound, and I may have hit the REC button just before I got the loud pop, do you think the fan could have sucked up something? I checked the squirrel cage and nothing is in it....

The fan spins pretty fast and it may have disintegrated whatever debris went through it.

Go buy a fire extinguisher and keep it on the floor for few days, just in case. LOL

it could have been a door in the hvac set up getting full blast air from the fan and slamming a door shut, up over the glove box the is a door that opens and closes, when i opened that area up so i could see it, it makes a good shutting noise, the smoke could have been dust or dirt, if it had no smell to it, like burnt electrical wires or such.

not 100% sure but the rec button may close that door to keep fresh air from coming in the car. and usually you feel the air blowing a bit harder when the a/c is on recirculate.

Yea, it guess it could have been a blend door dislodging after sitting for three years.

If it were a large cap then it would have filled the interior with really bad odor. Ask me how I know.

either your short on refrigerant or the blend door actuator on the drive side.

you filled it up? or a shop? if you did you use a real gauge?

if its low the driver side can blow warm. fill it up, see what happens,

i would clean all the connections, pipes, everything and wipe them all down, and when the a/c stops working again look for the leak. most of the time there will be a oily residue left from the refrigerant leaking out at the leaky connection.

or sensor. they have a O ring they sit on that leaks sometimes, a 1/4 turn or less tighter can sometime stop that from leaking.
