Ok lately I've been noticing that under low speeds my steering is tight and stiff but soon as I tap the gas the pedal loosens up immediately. I've checked and refilled the fluid so thats not the issues. Any ideas? I'm leaning towards the power steering pump but want to be sure.

DEf. sounds like the pump. The steering in my car became more difficult to turn at low engine/vehical speed immiediatly after replacing my leaking power steering pump with a reman. unit from AZ.

is the pump whining? like when you turn the wheels at idle standing still?

is it harder to turn left vs right?

    Bluemagic,

Sounds like the power steering pump. You may want to have your tech look at it to be sure.

    Keep us posted.

if you hear the pump whining like a bad pump does, its the pump.

if its hard one way and easy to turn the other. its the rack and pinion.

Hard to turn left, easy right. I just replaced, struts, tie rods, half shafts, brakes, belt and tires. Always something... lol

    yup it is.

i had the same thing. i changed the pump and still had no power, it will start to get hard both ways soon enough. then i swapped my rack with a used one. works great still a year later.

I had my rack crack in half in the middle of the road. Trust me it was a fun fix.
