This is driving me nuts! I've checked everything and it all seems tight! When I am driving around 90kph (50mph) I have a horrible shake in the front end. I feel it on the floor beneath my feet, and in the steering wheel. I feel it more when I hit the gas or going uphill. I have replaced both my axels. I also get it when braking hard downhill. I have new pads and rotors. I thought of wheel balance issue as well, but I have new tires in the front that were balanced recently.

I'm left with motor mount or struts. Can bad struts cause this as well? It's fine at speeds less than 90kph. It was so bad on the highway that I don't think I should drive it again on the highway. And insight is helpful.

    I have a 2000 GTP.

I'd say it was your new tires. Maybe they are out of round, or out of balance. The easy check is do a front to back rotation and see if the shaking shifts or not.

Ten years of continuous driving excitement and counting!

my guess is either the alignment is off, the rim is bent or a bad wheel bearing/bearings

I'm going to check the wheels for balance. However, when I was coasting downhill in cruise control there was almost no shake. It seems to be when the tranny is under torque. I'll check the engine and tranny mounts too.

If you let off the gas and it goes away it almost sounds like a motor or trans mount.

    What I would do is:

    Put safety break on
Turn key to on position (do not start)
Depress break and put in neutral
    Open hood
Reach across motor and grab alternator and bracket
Push and pull on motor front to back as hard as you can

There should be just about no movement at all. Even a half inch of play from front to back will cause some vibration.

Rico, I was looking for an easier way to check the mounts, thanks for the how-to.

asite57, the mounts are definately factory. I know I have a leaking rear valve cover and had a leaking power steering line before I replaced it. I haven't gotten to the rear valve cover yet, but it's a good point that leaking fluids over time can cause the bushings in the mounts to detiorate.

asite57 was actually referring to the "OEM liquid filled" mounts. Sometimes they'll leak when they go bad. Check if they are leaking, both engine and tranny mounts.

Didn't know the mounts were liquid-filled on the GTP. I'm guessing the after market mounts aren't.
