I didn't say that it would break it. I said it actuates and releases the forward band. A band that is known to be kinda common to break. Take a round piece of metal and press on it to make it smaller, release, press, release, press... you get the idea. That's what we do inside our transmissions. This band gets compressed to hold the drum inside of it. If you shift in and out of D/N for the hell of it, you are adding extra times for basically no value.

Kinda like downshifting a standard shift in order to slow down. A mechanic buddy summed it up well one day. Clutch is getting work instead of brakes, right? Yup.. Ok clutch costs much more than brakes and is much tougher to swap out than brakes. That was the day I stopped downshifting my standard shift car.
