I just noticed ZZP updated their pics of these to include the O2 sensor location:

Im usually not one for saying 'well thats where it was from the factory or thats how it was from the factory, why change it' but in this case, that O2 sensor placement, I'll say exactly that. Im all for testing, experimenting and trying radical things and doing things out of the box so to speak, but for the average joe that doesnt have a tuner, I cant help but question the wisdom of putting the O2 sensor in a location that only reads one side of the engine.
Id have to see some very hard core data, very good testing that showed that the engine is not in danger with that O2 placement. I just cant understand why you would design a set of headers from the ground up and do something like that or not at least have the option to put it in the normal location.
It also does not look like they built in the EGR connection either.
Even the SLP headers and their knock off cousins XS Power Performance Headers put the O2 sensor in the normal location and provide for the EGR.
My EGR is disabled anyway.
Regarding the O2 sensor, someone show me that reading both banks will really make a difference. Like I said before, if one cylinder is running rich or lean (which is the only reason you would really want to read every cylinder) in relation to the others, the PCM isn't going to be able to tell anyway. If it does notice something, it will only make small adjustments because all the exhaust gases are mixed. The PCM isn't programmed to think about it any other way than global adjustments across all cylinders (except skewing which is a preset anyway). It would go like this...
One cylinder starts going real lean say due to a bad injector. The PCM notices a slight drop in the O2 mV levels and slightly increases the PW to compensate. The slight adjustment isn't enough to make a difference on the one cylinder, yet it's now seeing the right numbers because all of the others are slightly rich. You still have the same problem.
What kind of hard data would you want to see to satisfy your doubt? I can't think of any tests anyone can do without a full engineering lab of equipment just for this purpose. I have no problem with where it is as the fact that it samples all cylinders as one keeps it form doing anything helpful if something did change from one side to the other.
Sabrewings, Dave (Trannyman) put a bung in my TOG crossover to WB tune my car. He said there is virtually no difference placing it there or reading both cylinders. Just by looking at the pics of the ZZP headers, my WB bung is very close to where their NB is located. I believe your thoughts mentioned above are probably correct.
Regarding the zzp headers that I have had on for about 2 weeks now-
They look really well made. Lots of grinding and smoothing has been done to increase flow A++ on that.
Now for the down sides-
The band clamp that they give you is to small and does not close all the way therefor it leaks.
The flange on the downpipe (header side) that I ordered is off set or turned about 10-15 degrees or so the wrong way so I literally have to undo the passenger side rubber mounts holding the catback up so that side will hang down on one side so after I bolt up the down pipe to the catback, the flange will be turned the correct way so the two bolts will go through the header side part of the down pipe and bolt up correctly.
The flange on the down pipe is larger than the flange on the headers so therefor the down pipe flange hits the sway bar. If it was the same size as the header flange it wouldnt really be a problem.
There is no egr or option wich mine was gone a long time ago anyway.
The flange doesent apear to be perfectly flat (either the downpipe or the headers) or the wall of the header flange is to small therefor not creating enough of a ''sealing surface'' because I just blew a double stacked downpipe to header gasket and when i just used one it leaked right away.
Overall I rate the headers as being better than pacesetters on the sealing aspect. Wich is what I used to have. And overall im happy with the headers.
If your looking for show these headers arent what you want. There stainless steel and turn a rainbow color and the rest just turned a light brown. If you've got there ss p-log then you know what I mean. Thats fine with me though.
Maybe they'll have 'em figured out by next summer when I get them.
Thanks for posting your thoughts.![]()
And they bag on companies that release things that you have to modify to make fit......seriously, for $700 they should look better.
Oh well....keep us up to date on how you like them.
TDC, please make sure you contact Zooomer and voice your complaints (with pics, if possible). I want to see what he says and see if improvements are made.
I'm glad I didn't order yet, I was going to order after my paycheck this friday, let me know what they say, thanks
Anyone notice that they now have an EGR option?

any Updates to add before I Pull the Trigger on these?
these would be ok on a mostly stock car right?
^ they would be encouraged! They are one of the starting points!
