Is your mechanic going to foot the bill when one of those hoses blow off and empty your trans, thus burning it up? I doubt it. For ~$50 worth of lines I'd say its cheaper to do this right and call it done.
This really is easy to do with basic tools as Bill stated. I see no need to pay someone to hack up the lines just to go back later and spend more to fix it properly. With 2 new lines and some trans fluid to replace what you lost I'd still be under $100 total.
