Has the problem been fixed? Mine surges sometimes when shifting into 3rd. Almost like the converter is locking and unlocking. A quick stab of the pedal seems to make it go away. (Not jacking the thread) And yes mine will shift hard sometimes when I give it 50% throttle and its wanting to shift. Never stalled yet though....
Did you check the coolant temp sensor? I had this happen on a blazer it was basically reading -15 degrees when it was more like 120. Spent 14 bucks a poof fixed.
I'm having the exact same problems as OP from what I can tell. I know I have an exhaust leak if that helps at all, other than that I'm on the same boat :( . I did purge the fuel from the engine as discribed in the manual and it pretty much eliminated the stalling.
