Looking at buying a 1994 jeep GC, with 200k miles and alot of stuff replaced like tranny, waterpump, rotors etc. Also has inline 6 which owners says has been taken care of. Does it sound like a deal? Are 1993-1998 Jeeps like that reliable?

    Thanks

Those jeeps are reliable if taken care of (like any other vehical). Everyone says they are built solid, and I have a buddy who has that inline 6, he hits and holds the revlimiter, and he just cant kill it. How much is he asking?

I guy I work with is in love with these style jeeps, he's had prolly 10 of them. He always buy them blown up and puts a motor in them and go's and beats the piss out of these things.

From what I heard from him, they are great cars.

correction: Heres the actual ad:94 jeep grand cherokee laredo
    217xxx miles
    Straight 6
    New water pump
Tune up rebuilt tranny new exhaust-loud but sounds great
    Auto
    Pwr everything an 4wd

The common tranny issue seems to have been adressed as well as exhaust. Only thing is engine reliability, Me and my dad can fiz any engine problems though so it sounds like a pretty good deal. Reason i'm trading is because the GP is great and all, but i've always wanted a Jeep, or a body on frame SUV for that matter, and it would get around the same mpg as my GP (computer averages 13 mpg city driving)

If that's the gas mileage u get out of ur grand prix then u have something wrong with it. I owned a 98 grand cherokee. I bought it when it had 170,000 and sold it when it had 190,000. It was just a temp car. The previous owner bought it brand new. And he got his transmission rebuilt twice. They last a while if u take care of them. But the trannys dont

The tranny's last as long as you do the maintenance exactly every 25k

Yeah but that's a lot of maintenance. That means ur servicing ur tranny every year and a half. Chrysler and everything under has the worst trannys. Period

thanks for the responses everyone, I think im gonna go ahead and get it. Tranny was rebuilt so hopefully any future problems would have been taken care of, and exhaust too. Engine should last me too.

My parents had one several years back. Had a good bit of miles on it and was reliable. It had the 5.2 V8 and we never once had a trans issue. I even borrowed it to tow with it a few times, and my brother took it mudding a few times. My dad traded it in for a new car.

i had 2 of em, a 91 and 97 i believe. the 91 was a money pit, front end work was pricey and the motor blew, had a 4.0, the 97 had a v8 leather and fully loaded, much nicer jeep, parts still cost ya tho.

if you ask me look for a newer one, they are better looking and riding. and the v8's have way more power. the 4.0 aint that good on gas either, it likes to drink it up almost as fast as the v8.

If one knows how to drive, neither do too terrible on gas consdering.

When I towed a parts 3000GT VR4 with the GC I managed over 17mpg with an empty two dolly, and 15 mpg loaded towing through the mountains on I-68. That was with the 5.2.

I borrowed my brothers XJ Cherokee to tow a friends NA Stealth that lost a transmission on the PA turnpike once. I got 17mpg towing, and 20 mpg with an empty dolly. His Jeep is lifted and running 33's too.
