Hello everyone. I had new tires put on my GTP about 4 years at around 67,000 miles. I also had a 4 wheel alignment done then as well. I have put on about 40k miles since purchasing. I have 108,000 miles on the car currently. The tires have been rotated every 7,000 miles. About 5 months ago I started noticing more noise than usual coming from the tires so I had them checked out by a tire shop. They found that all 4 tires were severly cupped on the inside. They claim that it is most likely due to my struts being bad. Technically aside from them being very noisy I probably could put another 15,000 miles on them easily. The noise is really starting to get to me so I really do not think I can wait another 1 - 2 years before I replace them. If I do replace them I don't want the cupping issue to come back.

    I have a few questions...

    1) Has anyone every experienced this cupping problem before? I had 130k miles on my GT without ever having an alignment and that car never had issues like that with tire wear.
    2) How can I tell I have bad struts? The car passes the basic tests... It does not excessively bounce or does it appear that the struts are leaking. I also feel that the ride is a little harsh. I never recall this car or the GT having a soft ride but I wonder whether it should ride a little better than it does now.

Thanks for the help and advice!

cupping is normally from running around with low pressure in your tires.

it could also be from an alignment problem/worn out suspension.

The tires are Bridgestone Potenza g009. I have maintained 32 -34 lbs all year round. There is no vibration or pulling whatsoever while driving. The car had an alignment right after the tires were installed.

    Wanna know your problem????

You bought potenza's that are directional and will ALWAYS cup no matter what, unless you drive the car like it stole it everyday.

Buy some bridgstone TRZ's or some other type of all season tire that gets good ratings. No michilen or goodyears tho, they are $$ and suck anyways.
