I know this question has been asked to death and yes i have asked it myself in a thread. But considering all the little problems ive been having/and correcting on this 97 grandprix GT and the fact that i am kinda conservative in nature i need to ask one more time for piece of mind.I understand that the headlights generally run all the time when the car is started. And from my understanding is that turning the knob on the left(the one that says off and has the P with lines and the lightbulb)does absolutely nothing.Which to me makes no sense, why would i even have this knob/switch if it does nothing?I keep the knob on off all the time and my headlights, both running lights, interior dash lights, including heater control lights all stay on when the car is running. So basically all these lights stay on day or night makes me wonder if this doesnt burn out lightbulbs sooner. Its just hard to think there isnt someway to have the dashlights and or the running lights off during the day.

you can disable the daytime running lights by unplugging something under the dash i know there is a thread somewhere about it.

Im not sure getting what im asking.I dont mind the running lights (headlights).but does this mean that my running lights(front and side blinker area)and my interior dashlights stay on all the time.Is there anyway to have the dashlights off while the car is running?

My dash lights aren't on until the headlights come on automatically when it gets dark out.

Thats what im trying to get across DS.When i turn the car on the headlights, all running lights, and the dashlights all automatically come on and stay on until i cut the car off.I dont think that is normal. And the knob on the side does nothing no matter what i click it too.

You probably need to replace your "daylight" sensor.

Ok now we are talking. So there is a sensor that controls this.Any idea where it is located? Also could there be something wrong with the switch on the side(the one in the picture).Because i am not getting any difference no matter how it is turned.

Logan i know where your speaking. The blinking light would be the alarm i assume(i dont have one). But you say the sensor is under the plate so i will check. Is there also a fuse for this feature?

Well resolved my issue somewhat.Ive pulled the DRL fuse and everything is working the way i want.Im still baffled as to why the dashlights were staying on constantly day or night when you have the car running.I still would like it to work like its supposed to,the dash lights should come on when the sensor senses darkness and shut off when it is light outside.

I found the fuse.It is in the fuse box in the glove compartment. As it stands now its working that the switch now controls manual cutting on running lights/dash lights and then the headlights.Ive been told the sensor is in the dash and you can pull the plate up to get to it,but i bet its not so easy to just unplug.
