Was just checking the oil and such, when I saw this!

What is this and why is it happening? Is there usually a seal that would be thee, and it melted or whattt? Thanks.

Didnt seal correctly?? For there to be that much buildup, a especially on the oil cap, there's gotta be a good coolant leak.

Did you change the oil when you pulled that cap?? If not, do it now, and confirm that it's sludgy...

Might just have to replace the LIM again..(if it was a shop, go there and show them immediately, incase of any internal damage)

My mom's cousin fixed it 3 months ago, put a different engine in it and replaced all the gaskets on it. Car has had probably 1100 miles on it since then. I was gonna change the oil soon. I'm gonna have to talk to him more about it.

...I'm just gonna say it. He probably didn't replace a single gasket in it...as 90 percent of people don't tear the whole motor down if it was running when they got it. It has a massive coolant leak. Find it and fast.

well something is wrong. Either he did it wrong...or didn't do it. One of the two has happened. I'm gm certified and I still **** things up. Why not just do the lim yourself? That way you know what's been and done and hows its been done

    a few things to note.

In teh chat he said he drives the car less than 1 mile pre trip for school or work most of the time, so he never get the chance to burn off normal moisture in the crankcase.

So its slighty possible that with it being cooler out its not burning any of it off at all and its slowly building up, but there is also the possibilty that he has a internal coolant leak as well.

Id bet he just put it in then...and didn't touch anything else. Either way you need to address it

Here's an easy way to check.

What color are the intake gaskets?

    Black, or gray/silver?

And if they are black...is there a good amount of build up around them or do they appear wet?

I talked to him and he told me that its common for cars that sit, especially this time of year. Its just from the moisture that built up when the car sat for a month, and is not a problem. The oil does not look milky and I will be keeping an eye on the coolant level. I'm going to wipe it off and if it reappears quick then I've got a problem.
