I was driving the other day and my 00' Regal GS started to spit and sputter just a few miles after I put some fuel in. After another mile or so after the first notice of an issue, it died and left me stranded. It starts right back up everytime, but immediatly dies. The only way to keep it running is to start it and hold the pedal to the floor. Once I hit the rev limiter, it will stay running as long as im around 3500rpm's or higher. I disconnected the MAF and tried it with and without, the EGR, with and without. I checked all plugs wires and coils, but it was not missing when I was keeping it at a high RPM to keep it running, I switched the fuel relay with another relay with the same #, I checked for all vacuum leaks and the map sensor.....all to no avail. Im guessing the fuel pump is so weak, that the only way to keep it running is to floor it. I CAN hear the fuel pump whine when I turn the ignition. It has a fuel fliter with 10k on it, so not the worst, but its ready for replacement. Strainer and pump have 174k on it. car only runs on 93 octane unless im at the track. The engine has been modded fairly well, so maybe she just went out. Here are my guesses....fuel pump, both relays bad??, fuel pressure regulator....hence the reason for having to keep it at high rpm's???, CPS??, TPS, strainer and of course the fuel filter, but I doubt this because its getting fuel and running without hesitation when in high Rpms.
Thanks
