L36 Oilpan changed!!

SUCCESFULLY changed the oilpan on my 2000 GP GT WITHOUT a shop crane or dropping the cradle! Took about 6 hours, did it by unbolting psngr side engine mount (2 bolts) and jacking up front corner of the trans pan (jack & block of wood so pan didn't bend). Didnt even unhook dog bones!!

Next day I went on a 400km (240mile) trip, no leaks!

Wanted to add this earlier but didn't have time....

After removing the 2 nuts holding the top and bottom of the mount together, you still have to take the U shaped top off in order to get the pan loose. There are 5 bolts altogether holding it on. Only 1 is easy to get at (it's the front lower 1) the other 4 are a real Bi*ch!! Took approx 5-10 mins per bolt to get 'em out because of how close to everything else they are.

After the five are out u can pull the U (top) mount off, unbolt the pan bolts 3 or 4 on the passenger side are easiest to get from inside the wheel well. Then you can muscle the pan straight down, be prepared to pry with a flathead screwdriver between the oil pan and trans pan to get it to clear.

***dont forget to pull the oil level sensor out or u could damage the oil pickup***

After the pan is off, unbolt the pickup from the block so u can get the gasket/windage tray off(yea it's 1 piece), that's why the gasket costs so much.
Clean all your surfaces<------DON'T be lazy here!!! I took about 45 mins on this step alone(just to make sure I wouldn't have to do this again for a LONG time).

A new pickup tube gasket should come with your pan gasket, don't forget to put it on! Reinstall the pickup and than your gasket/tray than pan. Pan is a C*nt to get back in place too(because of the trans pan), I used the screwdriver again and pried the corner of the new oil pan in while pushing like a MoFo to get it past. Didn't do any damage though!

All I can say is GOOD LUCK while reinstalling the bolts for the U mount!! I felt like a GD contorsionist by the end of it (bout 30mins or so). It's been three days since I did this change and my neck and back are still pretty stiff lol.

When u start to drop the trans/engine back down to mate up the mounts don't be surprised if theyre off like half an inch either. Just get someone to lower the jack while you pry forward from underneath.

When all is said and done...Pat yourself on the back/crack another cold one/or smoke a victory smoke, cuz u just saved yourself a few hundred bucks in labor!!
