My 1992 Grand Prix SE (2-door) driver window got stuck half way down. I just tore the door apart and got the window to at least close. But now what do I do? I don't really know much about this stuff. I understand there is a power motor and a regulator. How do I know which one I need to replace? Or should I just replace both. Or do they come together as a replacement part? Anyone have any good suggestions on where to buy replacement parts?

When I push the window button, I can see the voltage drop on the dash volt meter, but nothing happens. I can not hear the window motor.

I really hate working on doors. I just can't get my big hands in those little holes and the door never goes back the way it should. I might be in over my head.

Just buy a motor and regulator on ebay. They come as a package deal for like 40 - 50 bucks. That way you replace them both and dont have to guess. Its pretty easy to take the assembly out. You need to take off the door panel (normal clips and a hidden bolt or 2 and unplug electrical connector) and then the motor and regulator are normally just held in place with bolts. You will be able to see which ones hold the them in place and will probably have to move the window up and down to get at the ones holding the window to the assembly.

Where at in PA? Better yet, if you got a you pull it junk yard near you, snag the 2 parts from there. Will probably be 15 - 20 dollars total.

I did a quick check on ebay and they only ones I could find were $88+ and they only fit 4-doors... Mine is a 2 door coupe. I will keep checking, but if you spot one, please send me the link.

I can't find a new regulator for my 2-door anywhere on the web. Not ebay, not anywhere. Everything is for the 4-door. If anyone spots anything, please give me a shoot.;(

I got my power window fixed. It was the motor. Now all I have to do is put the door back together. All that plastic parts and nothing fitting correctly drives me nuts. It will be tomorrows project.

The re-manufactured motor cost me about $45. I could have gotten a new one on the Internet for about $25, but I did not want to wait, as my car was all apart. So I just went to NAPA.

As far as the window regulator goes, its just the levers/gear that connects the motor to the window. Why they call it a regulator is a mystery to me.

    Thanks...

Not sure of exact address but yea that looks right. They have all the GMs grouped together randomly so u have to keep an eye for the car you need but if u find anything its dirt cheap. Well worth the trip if you find the parts u need. Just keep in mind.... u don't necessarily need to find your exact car as most parts are used in other gm cars. Hell if u want ill join u sometime... its sad, but I like to visit often to see what pops up. Just let me know.
