"2) Cold Air Induction - Three Words; Make Your Own. People can argue all day about the K&N, Wizaird Intake, JMB Fenderwell, MSP CAI, SLP CAI, etc., but for the price they can all be beat if you take a trip up to Home Depot, Lowe’s, or your local Hardware Store. For the money it cannot be beat. Design is up to you guys but most people after getting to the basic 3.4" setup toss out the Cold Air/Ram Air/Hot Air/Fenderwell Intake Setup for an Open Cone Intake Setup...which is just a Cone filter on the end of the Throttle Body (Or in the '04+ cars...bolt a filter to the end of the MAF Sensor).
Cost: $30+" (from the safe mod post)

    1. Why do they switch to a open cone filter?
    2. Would 3.5 inch pipe for CAI be too small for a GTP?

    Other questions:
    1. How does the VS cam affect gas milage? Assuming I don't change my slowpoke driving habits, whould it stay roughly the same?
    2. Is there any reason to do modified rockers over a cam? Seems that for like $100ish more and a little more work I could do the cam.
    3. Does the VS cam work well with the zzp PCM? Or should I get it retuned letting them know I installed the VS cam?

Crap, I had more questions but they all ran away when I started typing...

EDIT: Also I was reading a post and someone said putting the mesh back in the TB would help lower KR. Is that because it lets less air in?

The screen on the TB ensures that air is directed past the maf sensor the way it was intended. Without that screen your maf sensor is likely not reading the proper amount of air.

    May not idle well
Could run lean and chip a piston

Yes..it would be best to put the screen in.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

    First set:

    1. Flows better. Therotically more fuel economy in the city yet more HP up top where we need flow.

    2. Probably.

    Second:

    1) Should be fairly close. Has a lot to do with the tune and your driving habits though.

    2) Cam will cost you 700-800 if you install yourself. Thats for a VS cam, L76 springs, LS1 retainers, new valve seals, new stock chain/tensioner, gaskets and fluids. You may also want new stock lifters (look for a set of OEM LS7 lifters) and new stock pushrods.

    3) You'll want an in car tune with a cam. Especially if you'd like to play with the pulley.

Also gives reason to avoid open cone and have some amount of tubing between your air filter and MAF to reduce turbulence.
