VC gaskets are easy to check. Run your finger under the edge of it. If it comes back in any goopy wet conditions, you need a set.

Valve seals can also dry out and become hard. This leads to usage w/o showing as bad oil seals. Technically they still seal, not quite as well as we'd like though.
