which sensor keeps the injectors open longer to help start, when the engine is cold. I read the temp sensor, but dont know which one. i should probably mention its on a ford ranger.

Not so much the IAT sensor becuase you can have warmed up car and show cold numbers in a cold climate, The coolant tem sensor (CTS) will tell the computer the coolant temp is below normal operating range. Basically all the sensors work together, the computer uses a mathmatical calculation based on the sensor readings to arrive at an injector pulse width given the operating conditions.
