I dont know if Im posting this is right spot forgive me if Im not. My supercharger is starting to make noise really gets loud after 2200 rpms. MY mech said its starting to go. Now my car has 185000 miles on original engine/trans. Does leak some oil. Now my question is this should I replace this supercharger. Ive been told replacing it with a motor with this miles can blow my engine. What do you all think???

my advice is to check ya coupler.. it could make the sc make noise..
i was told you shouldnt be able to turn it or it shouldnt have a lot of play in it.. im sure one of these guys will correct me if im wrong

Does it sound like rocks rattling around inside the supercharger?
Take off the charger belt and see if there is any play when you turn the pulley, does it move at all before you feel the rotors start to turn?
Can you take a vid of the noise and put it up for us to hear.
I highly doubt replacing the supercharger on your engine will cause it blow up, do not believe everything a mechanic tells you.

yeah im willing to bet it's the coupler, that's the most common failure point/noise maker inside the supercharger. it is possible that the bearings inside the blower are bad, which would require a new supercharger, but my money is on the coupler.

furthermore, putting on a new supercharger will not by any means blow up your engine. someone didn't have their wheaties on that one...

Its a "loud" whiring sound that gets louder as rpms climb not a grinding type noise. a whirring type sound at 65 and up you can really hear it. i dont know how to post a video or anything BUT THANKS FOR STICKING WITH ME HERE!!!!!

when i bought my regal i took it to a shop and had them go over it real fast, my s/c coulper was making a real racket, and the mechanic said the sc was shot, and i would need a new one, i had already heard the car run before i took it to a shop with the sales man the day before i found this site and found my problem was the coupler, so i bought the car, letting the sales man think i need a 500 dollar part along with everything else it needed, 50 bucks later it runs so smooth now, and its so a diy thing. it took about 45 minutes as this was my first time going at it.

i got my coupler off ebay for 20 bucks and used gm sc oil.

yeah, it could be the coupler. but you say it sounds like a whirring noise. superchargers do to tend to whine but usually at high RPMs, and usually not audible with stock box.

    a video would reallyyyyy help

It didnt whime like this a year ago when I got the car. My brother gave me the car and he NEVER abused it I think thats why its so solid with this many miles. You can really hear the noise at highway speeds

you'd have to make a video of the whine. GPs will run forever if maintained lol

take the belt off and just see if there is any play in the coupler, if so just replace it and see if the noise is gone.

Did you recently do plugs or wires? The reason I ask is because the other day I was messing around under the hood of my car and had the "cover" thing off. I put it back on and went for a good long road trip. Almost instantly I heard a BAD whining noise. I was worried it was something serious. The car still ran great just S/C was loud. I got it home and figured out that I had pinched some plug wires under the lip of the cover and it had not "seated" right. I fixed it and the noise went away.
