ZZ Performance
yes and 05's have dextron IV.
Yes the cyl heads got bigger valves in 04 and up cars
all 04 and up trannies had the hardend clutch
sorry i must of had a brain fart on the rods lol, they are not colored sorry guys lmfao
i would look for an 05, almost eveything has been upgraded and no programming problems. and overall a more reliable car, less problems overall

Just checked the GM service manual at gpona. All L36's (4LBB, 4LCB, 4LDB - Base, GT1, GT2) were standard transmissions. All L32's (4CBB - GTP) were HD (hardened 4th).
Re: 98-03 Gtp vs 2004+ Gtp
everythings been said. technically an 04+ is faster than a 97-03 from the factory. ive owned a 2001 special edition gtp coupe. i now own a 2004 comp g. love both.. something to be said about having a newer car though. still a lot of plastic in the interior but at least i dont hear it as im driving. just a newer feel to it. the gen V s/c is amazing.. theres less people with the 04+ that mod them currently. but yes, they are more expensive. more money up front. theres my input. if i had a choice, id do a comp g.
Re: 98-03 Gtp vs 2004+ Gtp
paddle shifters, newer HUD, and xm radio are nice features too ;)

Re: 98-03 Gtp vs 2004+ Gtp
I love my '05 GTP. The only thing that I would like to add to it interior-wise is a HUD. There aren't as many modded '04+ cars probably because they are, well, newer. Don't believe there are any issues with modding them though, and if you want one, you can get the 5.3 in it.

dont even start with the 5.3 in this thread.. lol
Re: 98-03 Gtp vs 2004+ Gtp

the hd didnt mean hardened 4th
hd trannies were done in 97-03 cars. Hd trannies had bigger differentials and PASS AXLES
Our clutch shafts are hardened and will resist this problem. Please note that 2003+ vehicles will already have this shaft installed.
W Body Store
all of them recieved the hardened 4th clutch. 04 and up cars are the better more reliable engine. hence why they are newer. now overall yes the 97-03 cars can get faster because there ligher and smaller. but all around i like the 04 and up.
Re: 98-03 Gtp vs 2004+ Gtp
I've been misinformed! Curses! Thanks for fixing that.

How is ETC better?
If you get a comp G you get electronic stability control which yes, is a good thing.
But only comp G's and GXP's received that feature.

What makes them more reliable?
They're 90% the same.

you'll mostly only notice the slightly increased throttle response with ETC
How? Cable is instant, electronic relies on well, electronics. It'll be quick. But cable has no delay at all.

exhaust valves were also slightly bigger starting in 2003
Yet there was no horsepower increase.
In 04...
They deleted the U bend, installed a better blower, slightly better heads, and a better tune.
Theres your 20 HP.
Reasons you SHOULD buy the new cars:
Interior.
Less rust due to fewer years on the road.
Better blower.
ESC (comp G only)
Other than that, age will ultimately show the same problems in the newer cars in due time.
Re: 98-03 Gtp vs 2004+ Gtp
personally i HATE having stability control. cant have any fun in the snow like i could with my 2001.. only cool thing it letting go of the steering wheel, and watching it make itself go back into a straight line from being sideways. lol
Re: 98-03 Gtp vs 2004+ Gtp
can't you turn it off?
Note this is required by FDC on all new vehicles now.
It is NOT a feature to be bragged about when comparing brand new vehicles.

ALot of fail in this post. 04+ heads dont flow any better then 97-03's
The trans while slightly better is still a weak point.
Pretty much what matts post covers+
Re: 98-03 Gtp vs 2004+ Gtp
i REALLY don't understand this thread.
There are still reasons not to buy the 04+ like secondary AIR system, 200 lbs more curb weight, cost, 04/05 require a change of LCA's to upgrade sway bars.
But quit caring so much and look at whats available in your area for what you're willing to spend.
In the end thats what matters, what pleases you.

Pictures and peoples experience with them say otherwise.
L26 < L36 < L67 < L32 < Swan racing.
Re: 98-03 Gtp vs 2004+ Gtp
NONE are forged. There powder coated
