Okay I'm looking for GPF members who have run their cars at the track with identical mods aside from a gear change. If possible, could you post timeslips and weather information for when you ran.

I'd like to stray away from hear-say or what you think might happen, and stick to what actually happened.

    Thanks!

No one? Okay... I guess we can speculate then until someone has hard numbers...

Maybe this'll get you started? If you identified a purpose, I'm sure someone could steer you to where you want to go. I mean, unless you just have a data collection fetish or you're an archivist of silly facts or something.

A lot of people think that switching to 3.29s lowers your trap speed. A lot of people think that switching to 3.29s does not lower your trap speed. I was trying to find people who have swapped the gears without doing any other changes and ran their cars again and see the difference.

    Care to elaborate?

I've been down this road before with you saying this in another thread. 2.93's are better for turbo cars to help with traction...that's it. I constantly get better MPG's now than I did with my 2.93's. 3.29's are awesome.

Tires and suspension help traction... going up in gear shouldn't be on the table to deal with traction issues.

Longer the gear...less likely to have traction issues...what isn't there to get? It's also FWD...anything more than 300 WHP is dumb and hard to hook anyways.

I switched to 3.29 gears and its gives that little extra that makes it seem a lot more effortless when your driving. I love it and wouldn't want to switch back.

I've had both. For the track, 3.29's are nicer. They let the engine rpm and power get going quicker. For daily driving though, I'm on the highway or typically cruising speeds of at least 35mph-50mph. For that.. 2.93's are for me.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

with the same gear ratios and only changing final drive, you should get better gas mileage in the 3.29's. my car goes into 4th gear at around 45-47 mph. 2.93's should be a little higher (I think ive heard around 47-50) so its almost like having a higher gear, which equates to better fuel mileage above 50ish. 2.93's will be at a lower rpm at the same speed, which usually equates to better gas mileage.

I'm not saying its impossible, and i believe you. Its probably even true if you do a lot of city driving. But you cant tell me its not analogous to driving a manual and shifting to a higher gear.

so no 1/4 mile times for a 2.93 compared to a 3.29? how much did the 3.29 shave off? has anyone swapped in a 3.69 final drive ?

    Holy bump.

3.29's will usually get you a tenth or two better time in the 1/4, provided you can hook it. And, are still supercharged.

LOL, Like GTPower says..if you can hook.

I drove worse on slicks with 3.29's than a stock car in the 60 foot..lol
