    Hi,
It's been a while since I posted in here... I traded my 2000 Grand Prix on a 2002 Toyota Celica and have been sorry about it ever since. The Celica gets good gas mileage, but it is so little that I'm constantly cramped by the driving position. I'm thinking of getting another GP GT coupe like I used to have, but was curious to know if there was a way to equip it with a telescopic steering setup that keeps the airbag functional. I'm not sure if I'm looking in the right places on the Web, but from what I can tell, telescopic steering wasn't a factory option on '97-'03 GPs at all. Does anyone know if there is ANY way to get a steering setup that moves in-and-out, along with the up-and-down of the standard tilt feature? I'd appreciate any help you can give.
(BTW, I know you can get telescopic steering on 04+ GPs, but I actually like the older body style coupes better.)

Just as a follow up - I'm still having no luck on finding a bolt-in solution for a combination tilt/telescoping setup, but I've had some success with other suggestions of a custom made "spacer" that would sit between the steering wheel and the original wheel mounting points. If anyone's interested, here are some links to check out, or you can Google "custom steering wheel extension."

My Personal Approach to Driving Position

Porsche 964 - Driving position (Look down toward the bottom of the page.)

It seems like that idea would work OK, and be relatively affordable to do; the only problem is whether or not that would put the column side mounted controls out of reach. And then there's the shifter postion and the fact it would be non-adjustable if someone shorter needed to drive the car...

swap a newer steering column into the older car?

This is uncharted territory, time to make history.
