So basically about 3 months ago my fuel gauge quit working. I will either show full all the time or show empty all the time. If it sits and idles for more than a few minutes the needle goes down and the light comes on no matter how full the tank is. long story short I know nothing about this problem and have been told maybe it could be a sending unit on the fuel pump, does this sound like what it is or does anyone have any other suggestions?

Fuel Level Sending Unit? I know on the Oldsmobile Aurora you just needed a the plastic leveler-thing replaced, not sure on the GP.

yep classic sending unit. The fingers on the sliding dealio, have rubbed away and no longer touch and make the connection.

Buy the sending part off ebay, its like 20 bucks, then swap parts.

you dont gotta yank the tank.

there is a access panel under the carpet in the trunk in the middle. Unbolt that and disconnect the lines to the fuel pump and re-move the snap ring and lift out.

Then replace parts and drop it back in, and trust me its a PITA to get it down all the way, its best to have 2 people and rubber mallet and socket or small block of wood to tap the pump down to get the snap ring back on.
