typically a stock 4t65e can take up to 300whp give or take, cam will eat the input shaft over a period of time

honda motor? why? the power to weight ratio would be retarded...

as far as other motors go... N* have been done (garbage of a motor), Ls4's have been done (not too much aftermarket) ive even seen a ls7 swapped w-body monte

I was just using it as an example... I wasn't considering such a thing.

I have 174,000 miles on the 4t65e-HD, how long is an automatic suppose to last? I've had 4 or 5 chevy 350 4 bolt main motors rebuilt and making descent power over the years and I've never had a stock tranny go over 100,000 miles. the rear wheel drive tranny can be built to take the power but so can the 4t65e-HD. Stock is good to 300hp just like the rear wheel drive stock tranny.

Ok so your trans has been going for 174K and that's with the 4t65e-HD... so for a daily driver I could push the engine well over 300+ HP and I should be able to get 170K+ miles on it too? If the 4t65e-HD can handle everything I wanna throw at it then great. Its just with everything I had been reading about the transmissions in these cars, it couldn't even handle the stock 200HP over a stretch of time. But if what everyone here is trying to say is true that the engine is great and a rebuilt 4t65e-HD trans can handle everything I wanna throw at it, then great. That's all I needed to be reassured of.

    Out-of-the-box thinking, love it.

    Read this very carefully.

    And this, very carefully.

Theres like what, 2 people that have swapped a manual into a 97-03? And nobody that I know of has tried it in an 04+. Unique indeed.

I've done tons of research on this, its not as hard as people think.

And "Mr. 5-speed" Kuntzie has thrown more HP at his 284 than anyone thought possible. a 6-speed(F40) can take roughly 450HP, the 284 can take 600+??

As far as HP/performance of the 3800, boatloads of reliable power on the cheap! They love boost! No need for a VQ35 or whatever unless you want all the headaches for sht and giggles.

Thanks for the encouragement bro, I read through both links you gave me, amazing information. I wouldn't be brave enough to go it alone, I would for sure need some help with this, and yeah, a 5 speed (284) is definitely the route I will be shooting for. What Kuntzie did there was just amazing, it looks great and the cost doesn't seem bad at all. I really wanna turbo my car and possibly nitrous too.

    Ok, here's what you do:

    1. Find LS3 parts car with a good engine and rear end
    2. Find an STS-V parts car with a good front end and transmission
    3. Swap in LS3, AWD transmission, front and rear ends
    4. Do some crazy hard launches with that setup
    5. Call it the "Grand Prix G8"

    6. When said car runs reliably, laugh in GM's face

Sad thing about GM is after you do that, they'll make a billion dollars on belly-button cars and laugh in yours.

maybe, but I would be laughing at the fact that GM came up with the idea in the first place but were to dumb to do it right. (Who in their right mind thought that the versatrak would handle a v8?) And this car using complete GM parts would fit the bill better than what they were shooting for.
