your key is probally old and worn down and your car cant read the code on it id suggest using one of your spare keys it could also be that you un hooked the battary with the lockout on
Ok...cuz the car lot i got the car from gave me a copied key(it looks like) and they must have the original key still..just incase the have to repo it, if i miss a payment. Is there anywhere i can buy a original key for it??? or should i ask the car lot for it?
you can search ebay for a new key but you need to know the oms of the old key so you get the right one, (oms you need to touch both sides of the chip in the key, and the reading is your keys oms), then when you get it you need to get it cut.
i paid 9 bucks for mine, and 1 dollar to have it cut. or you could go to the dealer and pay 30 or better.
I just called the GM dealership and the said the copied key i have has to have a chip in it & be programed cuz it wouldnt start if i didnt. So my next guess would be the stock alarm that comes on the car..but i dnt have the remote for it..
Remember though, in 2000 if i'm not wrong they went from a resistance type system to a transponder type system.
all you need to do is search for your year car and you should be ok, most of the sellers will tel you how to figure out witch key you have/need, or hit up the dealership, but they will charge more.
Just check your key. If it says PK3 on the key, its a passkey 3. Have a pk3 key cut and theres no need to pay to have it programmed. Just turn the car to Acc position, with your original key, for 5 seconds, take it out and put the new key in and turn to Acc position for 5 seconds. Programmed.
