As some of you already know late last week my engine started a horrible knocking sound. I went this morning and looked at it a little bit. I crunk it up and let it run at idle and tried to locate the knock. While at idle I noticed that all of the oil leaked out starting along the passenger side of the engine. I'm thinking maybe something knocked a whole in the oil pan? Is that possible?

Possible, but it would be making a heck of a noise to have a rod flopping around enough to bang a hole in the pan. I would think it would lock up instead of letting it run to find the noise.

Check around the oil filter/adapter and see if its wet. Might just be a loose oil filter. This is on the pass. side of the car where you say you saw oil leaking.

It wasn't really a hard banging sound, it sounds more like a spray paint can rattle. It idles smooth and sometimes the knocking slowly fades away but it comes back within a minute. The oil looks like it leaked out somewhere in the region of the oil send unit.

I have to ask what the fcck you're talking about with the "4:2:1" headers, you realize you have a v6 not a 4 cylinder or v8 right?

A3gtp this about the headers has already been cleared up in numerous posts now but thanks for your input. I'm just trying to get some ideas of what could be wrong with my car. Thanks.

i blew an oil filter o ring before and demolished my motor.. im guessing u did the same. any kind of internal knocking usually means the motor is ****ed.

D+mn. I figured as much. Thanks for the input and if anyone has an engine for sale I'm looking.

Make sure it's an internal engine noise before you condemn the engine, but unfortunately it sounds like you threw a rod, especially if you ran it without oil.

Yeah, the Oil filter adapter on my first motor cracked somehow, drained all my oil overnight.

You can also check the front main seal...more difficult to damage, but that will bleed oil like a stuck pig.

But knocking is never ever good.

Check out ebay, you can typically find decent motors for cheapish.
    Just got me a 36k mile L26 for $275bucks.

check the sensor thats attached to the side of the oil filter housing, (oil pressure sensor) mine blew out 2 times already, and it leaks out real fast. oil will pour out of the wiring plug.
