    The axle stays in .. the hub sits on the axle in teh knuckle.
    I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

    Yes the axle stays in the car but as long as it's not rusted in the hub and the hub not rusted in the knuckle than its easy. I just did both my fronts and one axle was so rusted in that I soaked it for 4 days and still had a heck of a time getting it free from the hub.
