I am working on a friends 2000 Grand Prix and the air bags have been deployed. I have replace air bags before not much to it but mostly the drivers side. Can you replace the passenger side with out removing the entire dash? It appears to me that the air bag cover just snaps into place, therefore I would think removing the air bag from underneath would be possible. Anyone done this or tired? Thanks in advance.

if i'm not mistaken the dash does need to come out to do it. the reason i say this is because mine is warped and cracked and i wanted to just replace the cover. however i think the dash comes out pretty easily.

hopefully you'll get some more feedback soon

The whole dash pad does have to come off...I remember tearing some apart in the scrap yard and it is not that bad of a job.
I cant seem to be able to post pdf's on here but i got a diagram that gives a basic understanding on removing the dash and then the airbag.
Just pm me your email and i'll send them your way, same if anyone else needs them.

I would imaging you know already but the SDM is under the passenger seat for when you go to replace that as well.

i have to say this. just throw a boot in there..... thats right a boot. heard a story at school where some body shop in order to cut corners and keep the extra money from in ins company stuffed a boot(like you wear on your feet) in the airbag compartment. some shops dont put one in at all. one shop got busted when the person got in another accident and no airbag came out and they died. They hit the shop with a lawsuit and pretty sure the stated filed criminal charges on the owner of the shop...... amazing what people do for money
"well we can spend 1000s throwing parts in it and hope that fixes the problem or we can diag it correctly and change the .50 cent fuse...lets ask the owner what he wants to do" --Walt R.--
