I lock place can change that for you
Your ignition cyl./tumbler whatever you want to call it could have been changed since the car was built. If so just go to the dealership and have them make you a key off your vin. The original key should open the trunk and pass through.
You got a valet key then, that's what it's supposed to do. Won't open the glove box either right?
^^Probably not.
Depending on your year of car the keys for 97-99 are like 30 bux and 90ish for the 2000+ due to the PK3 system chip being in your key. If your dealership knows you they usually won't charge that much though.
can u even get into the trunk? if so it should be just a C clip holding the lock in place, remove and buy a new lock and key.
i have a regal and the door in the seat is locked by a metal lever that turns with the key so unscrew the latch ( lever) and remove that lock too.
it sounds like that last owner had the door locks replaced. and failed to give you the old key to the trunk.
last time i replace door locks they sere like 10 or 20 bucks, new.
The only difference 97-99 is the standard "master" key has a black plastic head, the valet is just smooth metal, thin, fits well in my wallet
Not sure on 2000+ with PK3 but Id imagine theres little difference on the keys in that range.
As for dealerships doing it, if they follow GMs new rules on key cuts you HAVE to take the Title, or Registration from Tag Office and your Drivers License to prove ownership. Too many people cheating the system so they got really strict 2 months ago. Will not pull the key codes without the proper documentation![]()
hmmm only key I got with my car was a solid gold metal one, that unlocks the doors and starts the car, but won't work on the glove box or truck or that passage way thing...
hmmm....
Ok thanks you guys, I have a silver key and a identical one that has a black cover over the top. The plain silver one is the one that opens the door and starts the car. So I'm guessing im going to have to hit a dealership to get the right ones huh?
does the identical black one work anything or just the same as the "silver" one?
yeah it sounds like you have a valet key, though it may look like the master key having all the GM rubber coating on it. my valet key is DARK black and my master key is smoky gray.
i hope that helps you some.
I just have two PK3 keys that do everything?
