Soo... the wife wants me to figure out what's wrong with "our" (her) car. The car has had 3 major problems in the past 6 months and we fixed one of the three. The first was the common key getting stuck in the ignition problem. We removed the solenoid from within the column and now there's no problem. About a month after doing that the car started having intermittent starting problems. Randomly when going to start the car it will "click" (as it tries to start) but will not try to fire the engine or anything. If you release and go back to off and then start it again sometimes it will start fine. Other times might take 2 or 3 tries. Randomly when going to start it will hesitate then turn over (like, turning the key to start then waiting half a second before starter turns over the engine). This is an ongoing, annoying, problem. I've been told it may be the starter going out, anybody else had this problem?
Now problem 2- and this has been going on for awhile, and only happens in fall/winter/spring (it's Montana ya know...) when under about 45. When we get in the car and press down on the brake the shifter button won't allow itself to be pressed in all the way to shift out of park. I've found that if I practically stand on the brake to depress it I can get it to shift (i.e. both feet on the brake) but my wife is no where near strong enough to do that. Is there a way to disengage whatever "safety" part is put in place to not allow the car to shift out of park unless the brake is fully depressed? It's getting really annoying >.<

Any help would be appreciated, thanks, you guys are the best!!

Edit: Car is a 1999 GP GT Coupe (as if the coupe matters =P)

easiest fix is to replace the ignition switch. it will correct the shift out of park problem as well as the key not coming out. i can't assure you the starting clicking will go away, but i wouldn't be surprised.

93 CTD - more slow, less rust

I'll look into it. My brother and I may be putting a remote start in anyways, so since we'll have it all tore apart we might as well put a new ignition switch in.

honestly i'd stay away from a remote start, especially a DIY one. We bought a $100 one that I installed myself, before long it blew my BCM which cost us over 600 dollars to get fixed. Those things just get wacky and unpredictable
