I just bought my first Pontiac grand Prix its a 04 GT. I never owned a car that wasn't manual so I'm curious. If I drive in 3rd gear all the time from speeds of 45-50 will that ruin my trans. Whats the positives and negatives I will gain and loose ?

I do that all the time, its like second nature now.

I drive only city really, so i just put it in 3rd and leave it there, top speed I hit is like 50 mph.

Here is the good news, your car is newer than mosts, so your 4th gear shaft is WAY better than the 97-02 cars, in 03 then switched the 4th gear to a hardend metal, so it wont strip the gear anymore.

So putting it in 3rd will never hurt the tranny when going those speeds.

Thanks man good to know. Yeah I only travel local not high way so I'm leave it in 3rd all the time. I have flow masters on the car and it sounds way better with that gear. When I leave it in drive it always shifts to fourth and sounds not so good lol. If I were to go a little over 50 is that putting to much stress on the engine / trans ?

If you're doing 50 or faster i'd leave it in D.

if you're doing say 45 or less, 3 is fine.

It all depends on how often you like to kickdown and get some power. (not that you have much )

Yeah not so much power but still a nice ride. How hard is it to put a stock supercharger on exactly? If I came across one for the future?
