When doing my lim, my father-in-law noticed that a few of my pushrods do not spin. Also we were cleaning the gunk out of the ports for the tappets and he said they are supposed to go up and down. We couldnt get them to do that.

    Does this mean something bad?

No you can not move them if the cam is opening that valve. Also they are called lifters, tappets are solid, while our lifters are hydraulic.

Lots of pressure on those springs when the valve is forced open.
